Preamble
- Our Master’s programme start in September. The academic year is divided into two semesters. To graduate, you need to successfully complete four academic semesters (two years of studies) for a total of 120 ECTS credits.
- It is required to hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent in Computer Sciences and/or Electrical and Electronic Engineering to apply.
- The education is provided in English and in French (mostly French). We recommend a B2 level in both languages to be able to follow the courses.
- Students who already hold a master’s degree or are currently enrolled in a second year of a Master’s degree in Computer Sciences and/or Electrical and Electronic Engineering may apply directly in year 2. Please refer to the bottom of this page to check the application requirements for a direct access in year 2.
Due to the introduction of a new method of application for Master’s at national level and within the University of Rennes, the process described on this page may be subject to change.
Application portal
To apply to the Master’s Computer Science, Cybersecurity track you have to complete your application via the national portal Mon Master.
This master is listed with the other tracks of the computer science mention of the University of Rennes.
The track to be selected is “Cybersécurité – cyberschool”.
Admissions process
March to April: Application period for the Master’s Computer Science, Cybersecurity track.
April to July:
- The Admissions Committee will examine your application form and may contact you by email so that you can provide additional information if needed. Your application may include a short online interview upon Committee request.
- The Admissions Committee will pass on their decisions. Applicants are notified whether or not they have been accepted into the programme.
July: If your application is accepted by the Admissions Committee, you are requested to finalise your administrative registration at the Université de Rennes.
1st week of September: Start of the academic year
Tuition fees
The amount of university tuition fees depends on the level of study, your situation, your nationality… They are set each year by ministerial decree.
These amounts are indicated on the website of the University of Rennes.
Documents you will need when applying to Université de Rennes
When applying via the ‘Mon Master’ platform, you will have to provide a number of documents.
Here is an overview of the documents that will be requested to submit your application form:
CV
Cover letter
One A4 page (both sides) maximum. We recommend you to include the following in your cover letter:
- Describe your interest in cybersecurity (why would you like to study cybersecurity, when did you first hear about cybersecurity, what motivates you)
- Tell us about the fields of cybersecurity which interest you the most (if you already know)
- What is your career plan? (here you can also mention if you wish to pursue your studies with a PhD, for example)
Bachelor’s degree
Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) or equivalent academic qualifications in order to apply.
Proof of language proficiency
All our programmes are taught in French and English. We do not request proof of language proficiency but we expect you to have level B2 in French and English. A B2 user is able to understand and be understood in most situations. It is for exemple the level of English that French high school students should have reached in English at the end of their studies.
You are welcome to provide proof of French or English language proficiency if you hold one.

Application requirements for a direct access in year 2
- The Master’s Computer Science, Cybersecurity track is open for a direct access in year 2.
- Applications are now closed for 2024-2025. The school year will start at the beginning of September 2024.
- To apply, you have to complete your application via the Université de Rennes online application platform “Candidatures”.
Application requirements in M1 or M2 for lifelong learning
- The Master’s Computer Science, Cybersecurity track is open for application to lifelong learning.
- Please note that the programmes are only available in full-time course. No part-time course is possible.
