A strong performance by CyberSchool and IUT of Saint-Malo students at the CTF

Organised by Bretagne Cyber Alliance with the support of the Brittany Region and Rennes Métropole, BreizhCTF brought together 118 teams from schools, universities and the professional world for an intensive eight-hour competition. Participants had to solve a series of technical challenges covering various areas of cybersecurity.

Represented by five cybersecurity students in their fourth and fifth years from ISTIC (specialising in CISO and Science of Software and Hardware Security), the CyberSchool consortium team “fsociety” distinguished itself by finishing in 19th place, following a solid performance in a highly competitive context. Meanwhile, the student team from the IUT of Saint-Malo, “Flag Mal’Win”, delivered an excellent performance by securing 10th place in the rankings. These results reflect the students’ commitment, rigour and team spirit. Other students from ISTIC and the IUT also took part in the competition, confirming the growing engagement of the University of Rennes and its students in this field. Well done to all involved!

This edition was also marked by the increasing integration of artificial intelligence in solving challenges, significantly speeding up certain approaches. Kaluche, one of the founders of BreizhCTF, commented on the subject: “Neither for nor against the use of AI in CTFs, we must live with the times.”

A joint presence to promote cybersecurity training programmes

Beyond the competition, BreizhCTF is also a key opportunity to promote cybersecurity training programmes and meet future talent.

On Friday, groups of secondary school pupils were welcomed as part of Hack&Teens. Some visited the CyberSchool and IUT stands, where teams presented their study pathways, available from baccalaureate level through to Master’s level. Students from the IUT of Saint-Malo’s BUT Réseaux & Télécommunications also acted as chaperones for some groups, helping them engage with the event. At the IUT of Saint-Malo stand, a technical demonstration carried out by students illustrated the practical skills developed during their studies.

On Saturday afternoon, the careers and training fair also welcomed a wide audience keen to learn more about courses, required skills and professional opportunities in a fast-growing sector.

This joint presence of CyberSchool and the IUT of Saint-Malo highlights the complementarity of their programmes and their shared commitment to promoting careers in cybersecurity.
