Talk by Jean-Sylvain Chavanne, CISO at Brest University Hospital

As part of the Master’s Computer Science, track Chief information security officer at ISTIC (University of Rennes) and the Cyberschool project, Jean-Sylvain Chavanne, CISO at Brest University Hospital, was invited to give a talk at a conference.

Jean-Sylvain Chavanne addressed a very current theme by presenting the various facets of the Chief Information Security Officer profession, with particular emphasis on crisis management during a cyberattack.

Since joining Brest University Hospital and the Western Brittany Hospital Grouping in 2020 as the Chief Information Security Officer, he has been overseeing the cybersecurity of healthcare facilities. Over the past three years, he has dealt with several digital incidents, including a major crisis on 9th March 2023 at Brest University Hospital.

During this conference, he shared his experience, reflecting on his role with regard to management, authorities, and various professions within an organisation. He also emphasised the importance of finding a balance between technical and organisational aspects, particularly crucial when pressure is at its peak.

This exchange was notably open to students from partner institutions of the Cyberschool.

Cyberschool offers a dedicated path to the CISO profession, with the Master’s Computer Science, track Chief information security officer taught at ISTIC (University of Rennes). In creating this recognised the educational programme, our CyberSchool aimed to mobilize the best accurate resources to prepare to the specificities of the CISO’s role.
