The final event of a successful series (under this format): a look back at the first Cyber Thursday of 2025!
Our first Cyber Thursday of 2025 brought together top-quality speakers and offered enriching discussions, with the central theme being: when Humans are at the very heart of the cybersecurity issue.
Mobile devices: A prime target for cybercriminals
Hamdi Abed, Channel Technical Account Manager at Samsung Electronics, addressed the security challenges related to smartphones, particularly when it comes to securing smartphone fleets. He explained how to detect suspicious behaviours and secure these devices, highlighting their Knox solution, which provides enhanced protection for both personal and professional use.
Exercising high-level responsibility in the face of risk
General Franck Nicol, former General Officer, author, and Director of the Master’s in Defence and Strategic Intelligence at Sciences Po Rennes, shared his experience in managing uncertainty. Recounting a mission in French Guiana, he illustrated how decisions made in critical conditions can have a direct impact, emphasising the importance of anticipation and informed decision-making.
Protecting and raising awareness of populations and organisations against cyberattacks
Lieutenant-Colonel Sophie Lambert, Deputy Head of the Division for Knowledge, Anticipation, and Cyber Crisis Management at the Commandement du ministère de l’Intérieur dans le cyberespace, outlined the efforts made to prevent and combat cyberattacks in a context where digital threats have risen by 40% over the past five years. Her talk was supported by a concrete example of a cyberattack, shedding light on the challenges organisations face and the need for a coordinated and effective response.
Defence strategies and the key role of lawyers in defending victims of cyberattacks
Jean-Nicolas Robin, Partner at Avoxa, Co-founder of Viacyber, PhD, and expert in cybersecurity law, concluded the evening by discussing the legal aspects of cyberattacks. He highlighted the dual nature of this field, where one can be both a victim and responsible if protection measures have not been taken. Through two concrete examples – a president fraud case and an OSINT matter – he illustrated the legal challenges faced by businesses and victims alike.
A Cyber Thursday rich in insights
This edition of Cyber Thursdays was characterised by the diversity of the presentations and the active participation of students. A huge thank you to all involved.
This fourth event marks the end of the regular Cyber Thursdays series for 2024-2025, but CyberSchool is preparing one final special edition. This last Cyber Thursday, set to take place during the Winter Research School, will adopt a new format, lasting an entire afternoon.
