Presentation

Engineers studying the “Software and Computing” specialised course are computer engineers with strong skillsets in the fields of communication systems, man-to-machine interactivity and data management (data searching, Big Data). Our computing students are trained in software engineering (methods, languages and tools) and user interactivity for the design process of embedded software and information systems. They are also skilled in the areas of design and deployment of networks and systems including software/equipment interfacing.

The specialised computing and software course aims to develop the skills of engineering students with considerable computing abilities by focusing on the following areas:

  • software engineering
  • computer architecture and operating systems
  • networks and internet technologies

The training offer is based on a core skill in software engineering (approximately 2/3 of the technical courses) and a secondary skill in electronics and industrial computing (approximately 1/3 of the technical courses). The first year centres on teaching fundamentals with a “first semester of adaptation” tailored to students’ backgrounds. The second year is devoted to advanced techniques in computer engineering. The third year offers two optional pathways, including a specialisation in cybersecurity.

Acquired skills

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  • Utilise scientific resources to formalise complex problems
  • Develop complex software by applying appropriate development methods
  • Master engineering methods and tools to implement intelligent interfaces
  • Design and finalise new products and innovative technologies
  • Supervise and coordinate a project whilst meeting the requirements of both the company and society, often in a multicultural and international context.

Who can apply ?

If you wish to join the Software and Computing engineering programme, Information management, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity,  you must hold:

  • A Classe préparatoire scientifique aux Grandes Écoles
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Year 2 or 3)

Internships

Students on the programme are required to complete several internships during their studies:

  • 1st year: Minimum 7-week internship between mid-June and mid-September
  • 2nd year: Minimum 7-week internship between mid-June and mid-September
  • 3rd year: Final internship (End of Studies Project) of minimum 21 weeks between March and August

International Mobility

Enssat offers its engineering students the opportunity to gain international experience in a European, North or South American, or Asian country. As a partner with numerous foreign institutions within international exchange programmes, the school promotes student mobility for academic courses and/or pre-professional internships. Conversely, the school hosts students from partner foreign universities. All Enssat engineering students must acquire international experience during their studies.

International mobility can currently take the form of:

  • A semester or a full year in the third year of study at a partner university
  • A 2 to 3-month internship at the end of the first or second year, or a 5-month end-of-studies internship (April – August)
  • A gap year between the second and third year
  • A summer school of one month or more at a partner university

Joint degree

Engineering students in the Computer Science programme have the opportunity to enrol concurrently with their last two years of training at ENSSAT in the Master’s in Computer Science, Cybersecurity track at ISTIC (University of Rennes). This programme is aimed at students keen to deepen their knowledge of state-of-the-art research in the field of cybersecurity. The specialisations of the programme cover areas of system and Software & System Security and Hardware Security.

Employment opportunities

Upon completion of the programme, engineers will be able to take up positions in various fields such as information technology and services, telecommunications, consulting, scientific and technical R&D, etc.

Examples of professions include:

  • System Architecture Engineer
  • Software Development Engineer
  • Network Engineer
  • Web Engineer

Graduates will also have the opportunity to pursue further studies towards a PhD degree.

SecNumedu label

The programme has been granted the ANSSI (French national agency for information systems security) SecNumedu label. This label guarantees the relevance of the training in relation to its objectives.
